This day was the most frustrating of my trip so far. I had a great breakfast and hit the road early, hoping to cover serious ground.
Got my first flat at mile 3. Changed it, slowly. Second at mile 11. Along together, 6 %#*ing flat tires! I thought I might be pinching them or something. On one my patch didn't hold. Motorists stopped to help me many times. I met many nice people.
I gave up after flat #5 and hitched 8 miles into Oneonta. The bike shop had closed early, but there was also a Wal-Mart so I decided to buy some new tubes there.
I got it all back together, started heading on my way and got my 6th and final flat. I decided to stop and analyze.
It was getting dark and I didn't have any accommodations lined up for the evening. I started walking back to civilization. I ended up, after the rain started pouring, at a Budget Inn for $72. One lady refused to let me camp in her yard.
I had a wonderful shower, turned on the boob tube and hoped for a brighter tomorrow.
